Spring is such an exciting time of year for nurturing the creative spark and capturing children's imaginations. With Easter approaching, signs of Spring are emerging with in my garden with fuchsia buds and clematis shoots, and we even managed to find a few ladybirds and bumblebees on the weekend! I can't think of a better starting point to make lunchboxes more enticing.
Spring Bento Lunchbox
I used:
- frog lunchbox from eBay;
- ladybird and bee food picks along with the leaf picks (Eats Amazing);
- alphabet food picks (Eats Amazing);
- flower and butterfly cutters (a pound shop);
- pea pod silicone case (Eats Amazing).
The lunchbox contains his usual mix of ham sandwiches, chunks of cheese, yoghurt raisins, a chocolate mini roll, grapes and cucumber. However, it's the way that it's been presented which makes it more exciting for him to open at lunchtime.

They're so cool. I'm definitely gong to try some of this. Mainly the jigsaw sandwiches 🙂

Really cute for serving and eating now but hopeless for school lunch boxes as cut up fruit goes brown and whole fruit doesn't fit. Our current packed lunch boxes have this fault and only grapes and raisins fit inside, not that the kids mind this but I would like to put in apples and pears too.

Just a tip re apples – if you dip the cut apple into fruit juice as soon as you cut it (orange/lemon juice work particularly well, apple juice works too) then it doesn't go brown. I regularly send cut fruit in my son's lunch box using this method, and it barely browns at all. The same goes for banana too – you can cut a whole banana in half or in pieces (leaving the skin on), then immediately dip the ends in lemon juice. You could use blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, sliced kiwi & clementine segments too!

I really like this lunchbox and the silicone pea pod case. I think I might have to invest in the ladybird picks, my little one would like them. I'm just starting to get into a bit of bento and I love your ideas x

They look great! I'm a bit fan of Grace and Eats Amazing and although Mushroom only has packed lunches occasionally when we have long days out, I am trying to make more of an effort – in fact I am just about to order some egg moulds and am really excited about surprising him with a moulded boiled eff soon!

Thanks Rachael, your comment has made my day! 🙂

I love this. We started quite well but I've got downhill… oddly, with Seren now preferring 'cinio' to 'brechdanau'. I think you might just have reinvigorated me for next week- thank you! (and I might just need to buy some of the cute lunch boxes as well!).

Sorry, I've rather taken over your comments section! What I actually came here to say – this lunch looks beautiful, I hope the Boy enjoyed it! 🙂
