We all know how hard working mothers are, and while we know that all of their efforts are appreciated it's still important to let them know this. That's why days like Mother's Day are so important! Even though the 21st Century version has evolved from the origins of Mothering Sunday when people revisited their 'mother' church on Laetare Sunday, to it becoming a day when domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother church, usually with their own mothers and other family members, I think that it's important to have one day a year to spoil the special mother figure in our lives.
With Sodastream's help, I'm bringing you a range of vodka cocktail recipes for mums to relax with after 'the bedtime hour'.
Fruity Vodka Cocktails
Most people automatically think of mixing spirits with cola or lemonades, however Sodastream have a wonderful selection of fruit flavours and syrups, most of which use Stevia (a natural plant extract) as the sweetener as opposed to nasty and evil aspartame.
Elderflower and Vodka Cocktail
- elderflower spritzer
- one shot of vodka
- one frozen grape
Pink Grapefruit Martini
- pink grapefruit spritzer
- one shot of vodka
- one shot of dry vermouth
- one iced fruit cocktail kebab
While it's nice to have ice in cocktails, I truly dislike the fact that they water down the flavour. That's aside from how much space they take up in the glass.
A far better idea is to freeze fruit individually or in cubes to help cool the drink down. Grapes make an ideal 'ice-cube' along with berries. For my iced fruit cocktail kebabs, I cut cantaloupe melon and grapefruit into cubes, and placed them on a cocktail stick alone with a raspberry. Two hours in the freezer and they were done, a far more attractive thing to see floating in a delicious cocktails than a chunk of ice!
Sodastream very kindly sent me their latest development in making fizzy drinks, the Revolution. It's the first ever electric SodaStream machine and the only one to feature touch-button activation and a smart LED display. There are four buttons on the front to select the level of carbonation (fizziness) required, simply press one of those and the machine does the rest for you. The display also shows how much gas is left in the canister, meaning that there shouldn't be any disastrous situations of running out halfway through a party!
The Revolution is available online and from high street stores priced at £149.99
