As regular followers of TheBoyandMe will know, we recently redecorated the spare room for The Boy, moving him from his 'nursery' to his big boy bedroom. The room is decorated in shades of blue, and he now has a high bed with a play space underneath. One thing I was keen for him to have was a bookshelf up high so that he can easily reach his books in the morning, or if he needs a drink then he can easily access that.
Tidy Books came to my rescue with the 'Bunk Bed Buddy'.
The Bunk Bed Buddy is a small shelving unit consisting of two wooden shelves; one of which has a small lip ideal to hold small treasures and drinks, while the upper shelf has a larger front making it perfect for storing books.
As with all Tidy Books bookcases, the Bunk Bed Buddy is made from FSC certified, sustainable wood (not MDF) and finished with their own water lacquer which is a safe, virtually odour-free lacquer ideal for children and allergy sufferers. It's also quite a compact unit measuring only 33cm high, 53 cm long and has a minimal depth of 12cm. I was quite concerned about the depth as I didn't want to risk The Boy bashing himself in the night, or while moving around his bed, but it barely protrudes and is very effective.
The Boy really loves it as he considers it his own space up in his grown-up bed. He has chosen the books which he has to read by himself, and he has a selection of treasures on the bottom shelf; his Hama bead alien, the wind-up music box I gave him recently, his yo-yo and a compass. In case he gets lost in the night, clearly. I often now find him sat up in his bed reading a book to himself and I like how it has given him control over his reading material.
At £59.00 it is something which initially appears more expensive, however the quality of it is superb and it is a piece of furniture which will last for many years. The quality of the products and the paint used to create it, perfectly exemplifies the old adage that you get what you pay for; quality.

Probably in the bath at the moment – it's a cliche I know but it means I can be the perfect temperature and most of the time I get to do a little reading before tiny people decide that I just can't survive any longer without them!
