Sunday 31st August 2014

I'll forgive you for checking the date of this post, for indeed earlier this week The Boy and I spotted the first conker of the season. Ladies and Gentlemen, I declare Autumn open for business.

Bring on the conkers!

Oh my word that's amazing! Great photo too Mrs. I wanted a longer Summer although I love Autumn, so much prettiness! Thanks for sharing with #bwphotoproject x

Oh my word! My daughter LOVES conker season! She will come home from school with a book bag weighing 10 pounds full of them! Fun photo and great capture of childhood memory!

Yay! I hate the descent into winter, but there's something special about the first conker. My younger son and I nearly found one yesterday – it was a big case, big enough to be ripe, but we couldn't get it open!

Bah! I step on them with my heel to cracking the case, which is what I did with this one, problem was I stepped too hard and squashed the damn conker!

Lovely picture. My children are looking forward to checking out the "conked tree" in their school grounds when they go back to school on Tuesday.

I can cope with Autumn although not completely ready to say goodbye to Summer. Hope this September is a warm one to compensate for the past few weeks.

Thanks for the tip off…we have as yet to play conkers (being that I didn't grow up in the UK) and I am determined that this winter will be the one to do it. #mysundayphoto

Conkers are great resources for playing with, we drill a hole in half of them when we get home but keep the others whole, but we do soak them in vinegar for a few minutes and then cook them. Nothing worse than finding a bag of mouldy conkers six months later.

    Ahh…. noooooo not yet please
I've seen a Horse Chestnut tree laiden with conkers but they didn't look ready to fall yet. I suppose it may be because we're up here in the chilly North.
Fantastic photo… he just melts your heart. Gorgeous ;D

We did scour the areas but only found one or two more which had dropped, but they were white. The trees are covered in them though. And thank you, he does melt my heart all the time.

How exciting that this time of year is coming round again. I cannot wait to go conker hunting with the kids again. Love this photo too hun. Gorgeous wee lad you have there. x

Thanks lovely, we're so excited to go exploring and hopefully find some conkers. Autumn is a magic time of year.

Thanks, it was quite mediocre in colour, but I'm sure I'll have loads of colour photos in the next few weeks of crispy leaves and shiny conkers.

    • TheBoyAndMe says

I think the very hot weather earlier in the Summer helped the trees create an abundance, let's just hope they drop because they're ripe, not because the wind has knocked them down.
