Back To School: Waterproof Clothing

Anyone who knows me and the activities featured on this blog will know that as far as I'm concerned, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing."

I'm pleased that The Boy's school also follows this philosophy, significantly helped by the introduction of the Foundation Phase a few years ago. Last week a letter came home requesting waterproof gear was sent in as he would be outdoors in all weather conditions, so I want to share with you the items I'll be sending in for him to get his fresh air and outdoor play every day.

We might have had fun with a hose whilst testing!

School has requested a waterproof jacket and trousers are sent in, so I nipped over to eBay and found this child's waterproof set for the bargain price of £7.99. Consisting of both a waterproof jacket with a roll-up hood, and trousers, the set comes in black, navy blue or royal blue and sizes 3-12 years. Perfect for the playground!

We also need to send in a pair of wellington boots for him, and knowing how thin school socks are, plus how easy it is for feet to get freezing cold in the middle of Winter in the rain, I've chosen to send in these fur-lined wellies from Aldi. At only £5.99, they are the same price as a non fur-lined pair from supermarkets but with no obvious seam between upper and sole they appear to be better made, let alone warm! These wellies are part of the Aldi special buys which are live since last Thursday (11th September) and are available in sizes 12-2, and in red or pink. There's a huge selection of waterproof gear in this offer, for all members of the family and I recommend a trip in to store before they're all gone!

We're also going to need a warm and waterproof Winter coat for The Boy. In his previous school we used to walk every day as it was around two corners and took three minutes to walk. However, his new school is a twenty minute walk. I intend to walk it with him most days (I know I'll admit defeat in the darkest and coldest depths of Winter) and so we'll need a warm coat which is also waterproof. My 'go-to' brand for this is Regatta. Mr. TBaM and I have had Regatta 3-in-1 jackets for around five years and they've never let us down yet, helping to keep us toasty warm and dry during our explorations. Last year we bought The Boy one, but he's had a big growth spurt in the last six months (9cm since April) and needed another. We opted for the Thaddeus 3-in-1 jacket which comes with a separate inner fleece that can be worn on its own or with the waterproof jacket, which can also be worn independently. Yes at £60.00 it's a bit more than the average school coat, however there are a few places which have deals on them (last year we only paid £35.00 on eBay) and the expression about buying cheap and buying twice really does stand true in this situation.

We were sent the wellies and 3-in-1 jacket to review, I bought the waterproof set. My opinions are always honest and unbiased.

Great photos! It's getting to that time of year again…. I've just got back from holiday and it's still warm now but I know we need to get Mushroom a coat and some new waterproofs soon as he's finally grown out of the massive ones I bought when he was just 2!
