Days 174-180 of Project 365

174-180 of 365

174. Spiderman (We were fortunate enough to have a day sightseeing in London following the Britmums conference, and managed a trip on the London Eye for The Boy to locate the places he'd seen with Mr. TBaM the day before. Afterwards we were able to finally visit the Jubilee Gardens at its base, which we'd seen being built last year.)

175. Digging for Treasure (A simple day playing in the house and garden after an exhausting weekend. Nothing is better at the moment than digging for treasure. Especially with Toy Story sunglasses and a genuine pirate hat.)

176. Speedy (An absolutely beautiful evening meant that we were able to nip down to the local nature reserve, feed the swans and practice bike-riding amongst the bullrushes and bamboo.)

177. Playmobil World (More pirates, I know. What can I say? He's loving the hat at the moment. However, I returned home from work today to discover nearly every single piece of Playmobil he owns all spread out in the dining room, and 'pirate caves' created in the Ikea shelving. I love that his imagination is starting to kick in.)

178. Pavement artist (A simple activity which I often forget about; chalk drawing and writing on the patio, focusing on over-writing letters.)

179. On Target (We created a reward chart for The Boy this week, focusing not on behavioural issues, but on time and personal management. Having been for his Reception induction last week I'm very aware that he needs to speed up the rate at which he eats his meals – apart from anything else, the hour is driving us mad – as he won't have time in his lunch break to be chivied along. We've set him the target of eating within thirty minutes, and he's managed it at every mealtime! Other targets are getting dressed by himself – preparing for PE lessons – and tidying up. As a reward he was able to go to soft play with daddy while I was at the Summer Fayre this morning.)

180. Me and My Shadow (After the Summer Fayre, where I painted eleventy billion pink butterflies, we went for a long walk across Cardiff Bay Barrage to the pirate park, and scooted back. The sun was amazing and I love this shadow.)

I'm Going to Britmums Live!

Name:

I could tell you but that would kind of screw with the anonymity wouldn't it?

Blog:

Well you're here so presumably you know that then?

Twitter ID:

@TheBoyandMe

Height:

5'10" or 9". It does depend on how weary I'm feeling.

Hair:

Long highlighted blonde.

Eyes:

Normally red because I go to bed too late and wake up too early. If I had slept properly then they'd be a kind of grey/green/blue colour.

Is this your first blogging conference?

Nope, I went to Britmums Live! last year as well. I've also been to the Tots100 Christmas weekend and a Butlin's Ambassadors' weekend.

Are you attending both days?

Well I'm not going all that way for half an hour! Many thanks to my awesome sponsor Orchard Toys for allowing me to go this year. I couldn't be more proud to represent them, they're perfect for me.

What are you most looking forward to at BritMums Live 2013?

Seeing my blogging and twitter friends, catching up with them for more than an hour, meeting new people, building relationships with new brands, learning a bit in the sessions, stalking Kirstie Allsopp and hearing the woman from T.K.Maxx try and persuade me to wear a dress again.

What are you wearing?

I have no idea yet! Smarter on the Friday, but still casual. My Birkenstocks on the Saturday with comfy stuff! No-one cares what anyone wears anyway.

What do you hope to gain from BritMums Live 2013?

Chat to my friends, all of them. My biggest regret from last year is not talking to Kerry more; sitting in the T.K.Maxx lounge with her was the last time I saw her. And I miss her.

Tell us one thing about you that not everyone knows:

MY NAME! Mwha ha ha! But it's not going to happen!

Ok, something more serious? Um… nope I got nothing.

'Colour Me In' With Rice Krispies

We're taking part in the fun Britmums project with Kellogg's Rice Krispies called #ColourMeInRK, and last week we received our pack of the poptastic cereal, along with a bumper colouring case, to get us started.

The Boy's face when he saw the pack of colours was an absolute picture, you'd think he'd just been given a winning lottery ticket! He wanted to dive straight in with the glitter glues, but I managed to restrain him long enough to colour Snap, Crackle and Pop in!

And this is his finished design, not bad for a three year old in my opinion!

Keep an eye on the hash tag #ColourMeInRK on twitter and Instagram for more colourful breakfast boxes! I'm linking this entry up for the BritMums #ColourMeInRK competition, sponsored by Kellogg's.

I was sent these items for the purpose of this post

Getting Snappy!

This morning, The Boy and I popped into Cardiff to pick up a few things. While we were settling down for a Starbucks and a cake, I checked my mobile phone and saw a text message from the marvellous MammyWoo:

"YOU'RE A FINALIST IN THE BIBS!!!! Me too!!! Wahoooooo congrats!!!"

Nearly dropping my frappucino and cinnamon swirl, I replied with words that I can't repeat on my blog. Thank goodness I was in Starbucks because I was able to use their free wi-fi and check twitter and the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging website; Mammy wasn't lying!

I haven't stopped smiling to myself all day, it is such an amazing feeling to get this far. To have been nominated by peers in the first place was overwhelming, to be shortlisted amongt nineteen other bloggers was astounding and humbling. But to have been shortlisted alongside seven others is just… wow!

Thank you to every single person who nominated me in the initial stages, and then voted for me at shortlist stage. Without your support, I wouldn't be here. It's all down to the judge Julia Boggio to decide which one of us is the Snap! winner for 2012. There is such great talent in the category, that just to be at this stage, then be there hearing my name read out amongst the other nominees on the awards night is reward enough.*

Thank you!

Snap Finalist

*Well, almost. Who wouldn't want to win?!

Snap!

When I was a child I used to love watching my father and grandfather taking photos, discussing lenses, pouring over the technical aspects of their cameras. It used to drive my mum mad, but I was intrigued. Despite her frustration, mum gave me my first compact camera (film obviously!) when I was about ten and dad set to teaching me how to take photos. He bought me a few SLRs from car boot sales over the years and I learnt a bit, but overall I stuck to the automatic settings.

When I started going out with Mr. TBaM and met my (then) future mother-in-law, she passed on her old Nikon SLR and refreshed my memory of the techniques. Within a few years I'd treated myself to a digital SLR, a Canon EOS 300D, which I still have and use to take the vast majority of my photos.

I love taking photos, I have thousands and thousands of photos taken from June 2009 (The Boy's birth) and I take tens each day; on the iPod, my phone, my dSLR, hubby's compact or even The Boy's Kiddizoom, I use whatever's to hand. Starting my 365 project last year reminded me about the basics of composition, framing, light, etc. and then the fabulous picnik.com (now replaced in my affection by picmonkey.com) helped develop my editing skills.

Why am I telling you all this geeky stuff?

Because to my complete and utter amazement I've been shortlisted in the Britmums Brilliant In Blogging awards. Me! I never get anything like this, I'm a background person. It has meant the absolute world to me that people either a) liked my photos enough, b) felt I represented a good photography blogger or c) felt bloody sorry for me, enough to nominate me.

You see, I just take photos of my son and our life. That anyone likes them amazes me. That people liked them enough to join me in #Project366 astounded me (the response each week is flabberghasting!). But to nominate me in amongst the big players? A serious thank you to every single one of you, it has meant the world to me.

I don't expect to win, have you seen who else is nominated?! However, I just want to share a few photos that I am really proud of for one reason or another, and if you agree with me, please consider voting for me by pressing the button at the bottom of the post.

Snap Shortlist

This is the only time I'll ask, I've been stung by voting competition before and I refuse to get drawn in to it all. I'll tweet this a few times but it's your decision to make.

Thank you!
