Sammy's Great Escape (Review & Giveaway)

Last week I took The Boy to the cinema for only his second time, more significantly his first time seeing a film in 3D.

Having to wear the special glasses confused him at first, and he was reluctant as he hates things on his head. That was until the film started; he sat bolt upright and reached out to grab the fish swimming towards him. He then pulled the glasses down, looked at the blurred image, pushed them back up again and tried to grasp the fin of the turtle lazily transversing the ocean.

It was magical.

The film, Sammy's Great Escape, was really very good, entertaining and brilliantly animated throughout with worthwhile rendering into 3D, but seeing my son think that he was under the sea with the marine life was enchanting. I thoroughly recommend a trip to take your little ones there.

"Sammy and Ray, leatherback turtles and friends forever, are enjoying an atoll’s water and sand, shepherding new hatchlings Ricky and Ella out to sea. Suddenly, a poacher swoops in and ships them off to be part of a spectacular aquarium show for tourists in Dubai. The kingpin of the place, Big D the seahorse, enlists them in his plans for a great escape. But with their new friends Jimbo the bug-eyed blob fish, Lulu the snippy lobster and a whole family of penguins, Sammy and Ray hatch breakout plans of their own. That is when little Ricky and Ella arrive, determined to break in to rescue them. After a series of thrilling adventures and narrow escapes, our heroes head south to meet up with Shelly, Sammy’s first and only love."

To celebrate the release of Sammy’s Great Escape, in cinemas February 15th, Warner Bros. Pictures and TheBoyandMe are offering one lucky reader the chance to win an ‘Adopt a Turtle’ pack from the Marine Conservation Society.

The Marine Conversation Society is a leading UK charity working to protect sea life. Leatherback turtles like Sammy and Ray are critically endangered, but you might be lucky enough to see one when they visit UK seas to feast on jellyfish.  The ‘Adopt a Turtle’ pack helps protect sea turtles in the UK and overseas. Byron Bay Cookies (Review & Giveaway)

I have an incredibly sweet tooth and am a bit of a sucker for anything biscuit shaped. I normally refrain from buying them apart from for a coffee session, and because our baby and toddler group is a) a bit rubbish and doesn't get how these things work and b) full of working mums, no-one ever turns up so I'm forced to eat them all myself. FORCED!

Therefore when Byron Bay Cookies asked if they could send me a selection of their finest, I scrambled to my keyboard to say, 'Yes please!' and then eagerly awaited their delivery. Turns out they don't appear instantly though, so I was pleasantly surprised (because I have a memory like a sieve and forget) to see 'a selection' had been delivered a few days later.

Craft-A-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects Book (Blogoversary Giveaway #4)

Having set myself the rather ambitious task of doing an advent activity a day with The Boy, I then needed to find a good selection of activities to do with him that wouldn't require copious amounts of glitter and images of Father Christmas (or I'd go mad!).

Luckily, I was sent a copy of this book by Sarah Goldschadt:

Inside 'Craft-A-Day' is a craft activity for every day of the year, but it's very cleverly split into weeks featuring crafts surrounding one image or theme. And at the beginning of each week, a template is provided for that theme so it becomes even easier to do simple and effective craft with your children.

Next week's craft theme is 'Gingerbread Men':

It's a brilliant idea to enable parents to do crafts with their children, and I'm really looking forward to dipping into it with The Boy and choosing some great activities to complete.

This book normally retails at £16.99, but I have four copies to give away to readers. To be in with a chance simply complete the Rafflecopter form below!

'The Adventures of Abney & Teal' (Book Review & Giveaway)

One of the most captivating CBeebies programmes at the moment is 'The Adventures of Abney & Teal' during the tea-time slot. It's been a part of the schedule for the past year or so and completely captures our imagination; it's often the last programme we watch before the television is turned off (for the screen-free hour before bed) and I think it's a lovely calming programme to end the day with.

Abney and Teal are two of the characters who live on a series of islands, in the middle of a lake in a park in a busy city. They have fun and games, plenty of hijinks with their other friends Neep (a small burrowing creature), Bop (a seal type of creature who lives in the water), the Poc-Pocs (a set of 7 comma-shaped wooden objects or seed creatures), and Toby Dog (a melodeon-playing dog who always sits upright on the same place on the lake's mainland shore).

CBeebies CD (Review & Giveaway)

During half-term I dropped The Boy off for his normal nursery session and drove away singing to the CD. It was half a mile before I realised I'd been singing the theme tune to Rastamouse. Hastily I turned on the radio trying to regain my credibility.

Earlier today I could hear The Boy singing in the living room, I listened carefully and could hear him beautifully singing the tune to Woolly and Tig, getting every word correct.

Keeping Warm With SIGG

A couple of months ago, I was pleasantly surprised one day to receive a parcel from one of my favourite companies: SIGG. They make stunningly beautiful, resuable and practical water bottles, and in this parcel were a few essentials for the Winter.

They were to prove to come in very useful during one of our favourite excursions in October: our first football match!

Blogoversary Competition 5: 'Create-a-World' by WhiteStep

When I first started blogging I saw one or two bloggers review a product that I thought was amazing. A few weeks ago I was asked if I'd like to review it! That will be happening within the forthcoming weeks but take a look at this:

Create-a-world is a brilliant toy promoting children's imagination and story-telling skills. The creative play possibilities are endless and as it is similar to a fuzzy felt, the pieces won't slip easily but are removed without a problem. I can't wait to review this with The Boy, but in the mean-time Whitestep have kindly donated a Create-a-World (worth £49.99) for one of my readers.

To be in with a chance of winning this amazingly creative blogoversary prize, simply fill in the Rafflecopter form below:

Please note that by providing your e-mail address you are agreeing to receive correspondance from the PR company for Whitestep who may contact you about promotions.

Colour and Win with Orchard Toys.

I am a massive fan of Orchard Toys and have been lucky enough to review several of their products, as well as buying them or having them passed down to me. The Boy has learnt how to do 24 piece jigsaws because of their progressive jigsaws (like the Nursery Rhymes jigsaw), and as well as being bright and attractive, they are robust, made from FSC cardboard and are British made.

They are currently running a competition to win one of their most popular products, the beautiful Teddy Bears' Picnic jigsaw. This 15-piece jigsaw is a really lovely example of their work and they are running three classes of the competition: 3 and under; 4 to 5 years and electronically coloured (in a paint programme) 4-5 years.

If you pop over to the product page, you'll find a colouring page which you can print off for your children to colour in. Alternatively there is an electronic image that your little ones can colour in and send back to them.

For more detailed information about the competition, click here.

Closing date is August 31st 2011, so you have plenty of time.

Earth Friendly Baby & Kids

Back in February of this year, I had the pleasure of reviewing Earth Friendly Baby products. Since then I have tried a few other baby toiletry ranges but this is the only range that I continue to use, day in and day out. It is soft, mild, kind and is still the only shampoo to have cleared and kept away The Boy's cradle cap and eczema due to the key ingredients of chamomile and lavender.

When I was asked if I wanted to test out some more products alongside my favourites, I didn't hesitate to answer a resounding 'yes'. I was sent the EFB Organic Lavender Shampoo & Bodywash (my favourite product), EFB Organic Lavender Bubblebath (used every bath-time), Earth Friendly Kids Minty Lavender Shampoo & Bodywash, and Earth Friendly Kids Minty Lavender Handwash.

I hadn't tried the Earth Friendly Kids range before but was equally as impressed as with the baby range. The minty lavender products are fresh and cooling; perfect to bathe in after a long day's play in the garden in the summer heat. The handwash is used by all of us and leaves your hands smelling and feeling smooth and clean.
