Snappy Presents

It's coming up to a busy time of year for us with birthdays; between the months of March and September we have a total of sixteen family birthdays! That might not seem that many to others, but we only have four for the remaining six months of the year, it does mean that when it comes to Christmas time I haven't been completely zapped of all inspiration.

And this is the problem; after a while it gets very difficult to find meaningful and worthwhile presents for certain family members, especially when they are the more senior members of the family. They've reached the point where they have most things and also are able to purchase anything they'd like in between special occasions, whereas the younger family members are still trying to find their feet with their finances and so it's easier to buy them things that they need.

Added to this though is that the children are all growing up and the youngest child (aside from The Boy) is seven years old while the eldest is celebrating her seventeenth birthday in a few months. I'm a little out of touch with what teenage boys and girls like, it's quite some time since I was one and therefore it's making me quit discombobulated. I think probably the easiest thing is to buy an iTunes voucher as all the teenagers have either iPhones or iPods and they can download which ever apps they'd like to use. I'm pretty sure that Angry Birds or Cut The Rope are staple dowloads for everyone including my husband's nephew, and my teenage niece probably spends most of her time on Facebook.

When it comes to  buying presents for the older generation, I find that you can't really go wrong with a photo mug! Practical and easy to create, especially with a photo mugs iPhone app which actually allows the user to snap a photo and instantly upload and edit it, adding any text and then paying straight away. Perfect for finding a present on the go!

That's three presents to go, just need another thirteen! Any ideas?

We're at Butlin's again this weekend, having loads of outdoor fun with a few other Butlin's Ambassadors. The weather is beautifully sunny, not surprising for the most sunny place in Britain.

Having spent the day basking in the sunshine (albeit in a thick fleece which worked really well with my sunglasses), I am determine that we will show the seasons that it is time for Spring. My 365 collection this week features a decent amount of outdoor play, I hope that everyone else has been able to get outside and enjoy nature. That is if the snow has finally cleared off!

I'll show you my week if you'll show me yours!

The doodah thingy bit will be up after my husband's finished putting The Boy to bed!

I know it's been unseasonably cold, and quite frankly the snow that some parts of the country have had in the past ten days has been ridiculous, but I really do feel Spring might be coming.

Don't laugh.

We've had a fabulous week in Bognor Regis on our Butlins Ambassadors; it's been bloody cold with the temperature never getting above 5°C, and the sun has only shone intermittently, but I think that the smell of Spring is approaching. Maybe it was walking back to the hotel in the dusk at half past six in the evening, maybe it was the new buds on the trees, but it's in the air.

Anyway, I've taken 753 photographs this week, whittled down to a still ridiculously large collection of 376.

So I'll show you my week if you'll show me yours!

Days 76-82 of Project 365

76-82 of project 365

76. Sensory (Having spent the day in bed, completely drained and aching from a flu bug, I managed to drag myself downstairs and set up a light play box for The Boy. I used waterbeads and small submersible lights in plastic Easter eggs and The Boy had great fun playing with them.)

77. Eggy Sticks (We started decorating the polystyrene eggs I'd bought him for Easter. I put them onto kebab skewers as it makes them easier to paint without getting paint everywhere! It's taken all week to finish them off as we both fell ill with the flu bug and recovery has been very slow.)

78. Decay (I couldn't quite bring myself to throw out my dying tulips as the colours and shapes were gorgeous!)

79. Daddy Robot (Today was Mr. TBaM's birthday and The Boy was desperate to get him a robot costume, no easy task for an adult!)

80. Tired Eyes (We had to fly solo today as nanny, who had been looking after us all week, came down with the dreaded flu bug. I'm ashamed to say The Boy spent the day being entertained with the television, iPad or laptop. Dreadful parenting!)

81. 'Ear, 'ear (We set to making our Easter Bunny mask yesterday, as we'll be away in the week leading up to Easter.)

82. Speckled Egg (We finished off our Easter decoration eggs today, far from eggs-citing but I'm panicking about packing before our holiday tomorrow!)

Days 62-68 of Project 365

62-68 of 365

62. Shoot! (These are the seeds we planted a week ago in our gardening play table. They've really shot up, which means that I now have to find somewhere to move them to so they can acclimatise to the outside temperature. However, look to the back, the middle seed label was written by The Boy.)

63. The Sands of Time (We went for a long walk and cycle along Cardiff Bay Barrage today and played in the pirate play park there. We were the only people in the park for quite some time, which meant that The Boy had free rein over the sandy, sunken, pirate ship.)

64. Lick! (The first ice-cream of the year down the beach! The Boy had an eye-test today and he was meant to have eyedrops to test for a stigmatism, however because he held so still and was compliant during the test, he didn't need the drops which I was very relieved about. As a result it meant we were able to nip down to the beach and enjoy an ice-cream on the pier with nana.)

65. Bed Fellows (The Boy looked so peaceful when I went to check on him at midnight, so calm and serene. Oliver Monkey is never far away, and the week wouldn't be complete without a sleeping photo!)

66. Bubbles at Bathtime! (We had an extra long bathtime tonight where we had the bubble machine out, a pot of bubbles and the underwater light – all to remember a special little girl who loved bubbles.)

67. Catch The Pigeon! (Remember the Wacky Races song? Our weekly cycle ride along the pier was just like a scene from that today. The pier was deserted aside from a few elderly couples having their 'daily constitutional' and one or two brave pigeons. I say brave because once The Boy saw them he was determined to scare them away, something that made the grannies and grandads chuckle at!)

68.Splat! (We've been to Nymans for a National Trust event today as we are helping to promote the 50 Things To Do Before You're 11 and ¾ campaign. More to follow on this, and I've had to add this photo in at the last minute so please forgive any editing errors in this post!)

Heading into the third month of the year, the weather is improving as the days get longer, the sun stronger, and with that comes the promise of more outdoor play and better photographic opportunities. Having spent the afternoon exploring a (mostly) ruined castle, the photographs have virtually taken themselves.

We're coming to the first wall in Project 365; the novelty has worn off and taking photos has become a little tedious. Don't give up, it's such a rewarding project to do and you'll be amazed at seeing all that you've achieved at the end of the year. Keep snapping away, we all have rough weeks.
