Pink Lining Satchel (Review)

One of The Boy's favourite bags is his lunch bag which we were sent to review by Pink Lining some time ago; Robbie the Robot. It's a fun lunch bag, and although it's a cream fabric it hasn't got dirty or been scuffed about at all since term started in September. The waterproof lining is a Godsend and it's a good size.

We love it.

Therefore when Pink Lining asked if they could send us their new product we were over the moon to say yes. Robbie the Robot arrived in the form of a picture satchel and we couldn't wait to get started drawing a seasonal picture to put into the pocket window in the front.

Pink Lining Satchel

We nipped out into the garden to examine the leaves on a day when he was feeling poorly, taking with us his drink and a snack, which left plenty of space for collecting Autumn treasures; leaves, pinecones and funky twigs which were perfect for a collage.

Pink Lining currently have a competition running to win one of ten of these picture satchels. Very simply, you only need to ask your child to create an artwork on A4 landscape paper and either submit a photo or scan the image, then e-mail it over to Olivia@pinkling.com by Monday 18th November 2013. Any medium is welcome; collage, drawing, painting, pasta shapes! Pink Lining will pick ten winners who will then feature in the gallery and receive a satchel of their own.

I was sent this product for the purpose of this feature, please see the competition page for terms and conditions.

Pink Lining: Bramley Tote (Review)

Bags.

I'm a bit partial to them really. In truth I've got more than I need, and my mum roles her eyes when I take delivery of another. However bags, as with jewellery and shoes, are never about whether you need them or not. Bags make me happy, probably because they don't complain if I eat an extra chocolate bar or not, and therefore I ignore my mum's rolled eyes and enjoy their wonders.

I was recently sent one of the new season of Pink Lining bags for review.

I was lucky enough to review a Queensdale Tote last year and adore it; the delicate all-over design, and the detailed embroidery of beach huts and bunting on the pockets were a winning combination for me over the Summer months. I've also recently spent several months tracking down a rare Black Cabs Queensdale Tote, and it's fair to say I love the design of the Queensdale.

However, Pink Lining have discontinued this design in order to keep their range fresh and therefore I was asked if I'd like to review a Bramley Tote instead. I'm not a big one for change, but this bag is fantastic! I chose a Bramley Tote: Cream Bows on Pink. While the Bramley Tote doesn't have the front feature pockets like the Queensdale did, it does have the missing factor in so many bags: zips!

No-one wants to show off a messy bag with children's half-eaten chew bars, wet wipes, and ladies personal products, nor do they want to advertise the exact location of their purse, keys or phone. A zip is a must and the Bramley Tote has these in abundance with one main section and two large side pockets.

Pink Lining change bag

The main section has: a thermo-insulated bottle pouch (as with other Pink Lining bags although this one is detachable); a changing mat; a zipped plastic wet bag; two large, side pockets which are ideal for wet wipes and nappies, or in our case a colouring book and pencils; two smaller slim pockets ideal for a phone or iPod; key fob; pen loop; and a detachable mirror. Once all these pockets are loaded up, there's still plenty of space for a tablet PC, purse, make-up bag, children's snacks etc. And the best bit is that the long zip hides away all this chaos into a classic, attractive bag. On the outside of the bag are two zipped pockets; one large enough for ladies personal products, and the other large enough for a complete change of clothes for a child, or a tablet PC.

The straps are wide and thick-woven fabric so they are comfortable to wear; they are also detachable which makes it easier to hang from the handles of a pushchair, with metal clasps and reinforced metal holes on the bag. The bag, as with all Pink Lining bags, is made from 100% cotton canvas laminated with EVA coating which makes it wipe clean with a damp cloth and detergent.

I took this bag with us when we went to London recently for the Britmums blogging conference and on 'me' days I could fit the various bits I needed into the bag with no problem (purse, iPad, make-up bag, drinks, notebook, etc.), and this was easily added to on the 'mummy' day with snacks, The Boy's cardigan and his entertainment.

Do I love this bag? Yes.

Would I pay £75.00 for it? Honestly I'd think two or three times before entering my card details, but actually yes I would.

You get what you pay for, and we went through two of those free Pampers/Boots change bags before I realised that the reason they kept breaking was because they were rubbish quality. Pink Lining bags are well made, very well made, with well thought out designs which cater to a modern woman's needs as a mum and person in her own right. And they last well; I'm forever slinging this bag around and dumping it on the ground whether it's sand, tarmac, mud, paving or grass. The four metal studs on the bottom of the bag prevent the fabric from becoming scuffed easily.

The best bit about this though is that Pink Lining currently have the Cream Bows on Pink Bramley Tote in their sale with 30% off: £75.00 down to £52.50. Now that, I would definitely pay for this bag.

Pink Lining At The MADs (Review)

About a month ago now, I hopped onto a train to London to enjoy the MAD Blog Awards presentation dinner in a swishy hotel.

As the dinner was formal, I needed to wear something suitable for a cocktail party and dutifully shoes my sparkly top, trousers, shoes, etc. and laid them all out ready to pack up for the overnight stay. black cabs bag

Yes. That's an iron. I do things like this when I go away; I take an iron.

Luckily, I had been sent a rather beautiful, and highly appropriate, Black Cabs overnight bag from Pink Lining to transport my necessities. Measuring 62(L) x 26(H) x 26(W)cm, I'll be honest that I was sceptical that I'd get all of that lot above into the bag. However, in it went with ease and with room to spare for a few bars of chocolate in case of a midnight feast!

The bag was the perfect size for an overnight trip. Everything I needed (including the iron, along with hair straighteners, toiletries, 'party clothes', pyjamas, outfit for the next day) fitted in to a very manageable bag which was light and easy to carry. It's a stylish bag, with a hard wearing, wipe-clean exterior and the distinguishable 'pink lining' interior. It certainly looked the part in first class on the train, and in the taxi.

The Pink Lining Black Cabs overnight bag is available for £55.

Pink Lining

A few months ago, I was fortunate enough to be sent a Pink Lining change bag for review and it is currently my bag of choice during these 'Summer' months. Bright and attractive, with a wipe-clean fabric and plenty of pockets for all our little bits, the Queensdale tote is a perfect toddler change bag.

The other day I opened the door to find another Pink Lining delivery, this time for The Boy. The lovely people over there thought that he might like to try their new Robbie the Robot lunch bag.

Robbie the Robot lunch bag

The lunch bag has a double-zipped front opening up three-quarters of the way around to reveal a PVC waterproof inside with a elasticated net pocket on the side of the lid, and an elastic loop in the main section to be used as a drinks holder. The wipe-clean interior is a perfect size for school lunches, picnics or day trips out, with plenty of space for a few Tupperware tubs and a drink. The main part of the exterior is made from a wipe-clean material covered in a cute robot print. On the back is a clear pocket for a name label to be inserted into. The lid is not a wipe-clean surface, instead it has a full-length Robbie Robot design embroidered onto it. The handle on the top has a nifty clip to enable you to attach it to another bag, pushchair, etc.

We love this bag, it's very cute, practical and a perfect size for the lunches of young men with growing appetites. The Robbie the Robot lunch bag is available from Pink Lining for £20.00 and measures 23x23x8.5cm.

Pink Lining: Queensdale Tote Bag

I've seen quite a few mums talking about Pink Lining bags over the past year or so, and I've even seen a few out and about on my travels, but I have yet to own one for myself. To me, Pink Lining bags are the ultimate yummy mummy baby bag, but I'm more of a tummy-mummy, more of a 'is-that-The-Boy's-snot-on-my-dry-clean-only-Winter-coat' mummy. I need a practical bag which can take a beating. I've certainly never been feminine enough to own something as pretty as the Pink Lining bags I've admired from afar.

That was until they invited me to review a bag from their new season's collection and better still I got to choose for myself. There were a few bags that I uhmed and aahed over, but in the end I plummed for one of their bigger bags: the Queensdale Tote. At 35×32.5x30cm, it's not a small handbag, but that's perfect for me in the forthcoming Spring and Summer months. As a mum of a toilet-trained pre-schooler, I might not be carrying nappies around anymore but I do have to carry spare pants (his not mine!), a change of clothes, a hat, cardigan and snacks for him (and possibly me). I need a larger bag, and I've always favoured the oversize fashion.

The colourway that I chose is 'Blue Butterflies' as I'm far more of a blue girl than a pink one, however it comes in three other colourways as well: Pink Butterflies, Thistle and Dragonfly (purple), and Bluebirds and Bows (green). I love the design over the pockets on the front of the bag; two stripey beach huts, bunting and a bucket and spade. This reminds me of the 1950s Darling Buds of May era, and will be perfect for me to use on the beach or in the park during the Spring and Summer.

Inside are the characteristic pocket arrangement; two drinks holders, two large pockets, a phone holder, a key loop, a zipped section for your discrete bits, and a detachable mirror. Combine the zipped removable plastic bag (for first aid bits, suntan lotion and creams) with the large space in the main bag itself which is great for holding a change of clothes for him (or a towel and his swimsuit), and you've got a perfect bag for a mum of a toddler. (There's also a padded changemat which is nice and large.)

Extra bits that I like include the different ways that the handles clip on and off and can be rearranged to make it easier for carrying or slinging over a pushchair, and the linking strap to hold the ends together on the inside and stop it gaping or losing shape. I'm sure there's a proper name for it, but it escapes me at the moment. I personally like a zip on my handbags; I always worry about something falling out or being stolen, along with not wanting to show the world my belongings. However this inner strap and the firm clasp make the bag stay in shape very well.

I really like this bag, I can't wait to take it out on a sunny Spring day and have it draw admiring glances. And while the inside might contain a bright blue pair of Thomas the Tank Engine underpants, the outside is all about mummy!

Competition: Pink Lining Rucksack

As The Boy is now toilet trained, I've carefully put away my mahoosive changing bag and brought out something that I haven't used in two years; a handbag! Not needing to carry around oodles of spare nappies, or bibs, or bodies, etc. has seriously reduced the size and amount of things I do need to have with me. And now that The Boy is more independent, when we do go out, he can and likes to carry his own bag with a few toys in it to play with.

Luckily we were recently sent a gorgeous rucksack from Pink Lining to review. Pink Lining are probably better known for their absolutely gorgeous selection of change-bags; trendy and stylish, cute but modern. However, they also have a selection of children's bags and it is one of these that we were sent.

Isn't it cute? The main fabric of the bag is called 'red busses' and is really self-explanatory as it's covered in a red bus print. It also appears to be waxed or finished with a waterproof coating, which is great as wet books are a bit rubbish for drawing in. On the front is a really adorable denim pocket with a dinosaur and the word 'Grrr!' embroidered on it. At £15, this is a really good quality, long-lasting rucksack for your little ones. The straps are thick so as not to cut in, and adjustable so that they don't slip off little shoulders.
