Trunki PaddlePak (Review)

The Boy has now reached the age where he'll carry around his belongings in a backpack, and he'll do this happily if said backpack is a cute, green, frog-themed one; green being his favourite colour.

During the Summer, his absolute favourite bag was the Trunki Paddlepak that he'd been sent to review, and it went everywhere with us, from days out to the beach, to swimming, to the nature reserve and even to Nana's house (two minutes away from our own house). To keep him going during these busy activities, Trunki were very kind and filled his Ribbit Paddlepak full of Ella's Kitchen goodies, and the raisin and spelt cookies were just the snack to replenish his reserves after swimming.

Trunki Paddlepak

The Trunki Paddlepak is a great, novelty bag which comes in a variety of different aquatic animal designs from a orca whale to a lobster! The clever roll top design with a clasp ensures that the contents stay secure and it's easy for children to open and close. It's a water-resistant bag which is ideal for swimming as it doesn't let the dry clothes inside it get wet on the changing room floor, and neither does it let the sopping wet towel and bathers drip all over the car! There are reflective and high-visibility straps and a dry zip pocket for those things which need to be kept from getting drenched. The straps are adjustable and it's very comfortable for The Boy to wear. It has a 7.5l capacity which means not very much to me, however it holds his arm bands, bathers, a bath towel and his toiletries, definitely big enough for a five year old's goodies!

Priced at £19.99 it's a great bag which is well made and lasts incredibly well. The waterproof aspect is excellent and it's fun and comfortable to use. Top marks from us!

Trunki: Moshi Monsters' Katsuma Suitcase (Review)

There are certain products made which just appeal to children and adults alike, and a Trunki suitcase is one of them! Anything that can make the 'going on holiday' process easier has got to be a bonus and I'm sure many parents wish that there was an adult-sized Trunki for them to have a zoom around on too!

I've wanted to get one for The Boy for a year or so now, and was very fortunate a couple of months ago to be offered the chance to review the new Moshi Monsters Katsuma Trunki suitcase. I've been unable to review it properly until recently when we went away to Coombe Mill in Cornwall for a short break of four nights/five days.

I will admit to being sceptical that the 18litre Trunki (which is ideal for overhead lockers on planes) would be big enough to hold The Boy's clothing for five days on a farm; after all we're talking about thick jumpers, numerous jogging bottoms and long johns galore, in addition to normal underwear and pyjamas. And of course it is a rigid suitcase so there is no give in it to squash in that extra teddy or book.

In total there was:

  • four pairs of jogging bottoms
  • four jumpers
  • four vests
  • six pairs of pants
  • six pairs of socks
  • three pairs of pyjamas
  • two four story books
  • one teddy
  • and one Oliver Monkey!

Trunki suitcase - Katsuma

Once I'd worked out that the scoop of each side was greater in the middle, I was able to pack everything in bar two of the reading books which just wouldn't fit in due to their dimensions (too wide!). The photo on the bottom left above implies that the case didn't shut, but it certainly did! Everything fitted in very neatly and the two halves closed together tightly.

And what's more, The Boy absolutely loved having his Trunki to scoot around the Scandinavian lodge at Coombe Mill!

I am quite confident that the Trunki is big enough to hold his clothes for our holiday to Butlin's at Easter time, and we will certainly be using it during our Summer trip back to Coombe Mill.

The Trunki Katsuma is available to buy for £44.95 directly from Trunki, or through a variety of online and high street stores.

Review: Trunki PaddlePak

A few months ago we decided that we didn't take The Boy swimming enough. He's coming up to three years old and is still developing his water confidence. He pretends to swim in the bath, he's more confident with water splashing about his face and head but he's still a little unsure in the water clinging to me in the pool. We made a decision there and then to take him more often, and he goes once a month now (looking to increase that now with the warmer weather).

When Trunki asked me if we'd like to review their new fun backpack for little swimmers, we were more than happy to oblige! The Boy's lovely azure blue PaddlePak was sent to us in perfect time for our trip away over the Easter weekend. The place we went to stay in, has one of the best waterworlds around for fun and laughter, so we packed his new PaddlePak with his fluffy towel, Konfidence jacket and HappyNappy swim pants, popped it on his back and off we went.

Made of waterproof fabric and featuring a roll top tight seal, the PaddlePak is the perfect size for pre-schoolers and infants to hold their swimming stuff. Obviously older children won't have something as bulky as a Konfidence jacket to fit in, giving them plenty of space for other items. The funky backpack has a reflective fish detail all over the back and in the cute fin there is a zip pocket to hold small valuables. It was incredibly comfy for The Boy to wear, especially as the straps and back are padded for comfort.

The PaddlePak gets a definite thumbs up from us; lightweight, waterproof, fun and funky, it's sure to get loads more trips to the swimming pool.

The Trunki PaddlePak is available (in bright pink or blue) directly for £19.95

Trunki Toybox

We were lucky enough to be able to review the new Trunki Toybox which arrived just in time for our holiday to Dorset. The minute it arrived, The Boy was captivated by it and completely understood its purpose!

The Trunki Toybox has been designed as a travel toybox but with all the niftiness of the Trunki suitcase. Of course the main function of it is as a Toybox, and the green lid has two catches either end to secure it in place when being carried. Also on the lid of the Toybox are four wheels, one in each corner, which enable it to be turned over, sat on and scooted around on. All perfectly demonstrated by my able assistant in the above photos.

I asked The Boy what he wanted to pack for holidays and this is what he chose:

Yes that's right: two jigsaws, a kitchen towel tube and the iPod Touch! I dare say that he could have amused himself for a little while with that lot, but not a whole week, so I gave him a hand.

When I looked at the Toybox, I will admit to being sceptical as to how much could be fitted into it; he's got a lot of toys, we were going away for a week and it didn't look that big. That is where it is incredibly deceptive and I think Trunki drafted in Mary Poppins to help design and manufacture it. We actually managed to get all of this lot in, and there was room to spare.

A mini laptop, three cuddly toys, crayons, Tag Junior reading system and two books, Djeco puzzlebox, stacking cups, two puzzles, two sets of threading beads, threading cards, colouring books and a spinning top. Oh, and the iPod Touch but he was playing with it at the time which is why it's not in the picture. I think that's a lot of toys to fit in the compact and sturdy box (not forgetting that the box is itself a toy), which incidentally fitted in the car in his seat's footwell really neatly.

I think this is a really good travel toybox, sturdy and compact, easy to carry with a strong handle. It has been designed to link together with other toyboxes to make a chain if need be; maybe if you had more than one child and they had a toybox each then that could be quite good fun. The one thing that I will say is that personally I feel the wheels could have gone in the base of the box rather than the lid, as in order to ride it you have to turn it over, therefore tipping the contents upside down. Just a minor point which might well be a personal preference.

Overall, this toybox was a God-send for our holiday and will definitely be used time and time again. At £19.99, and available in either pink or blue, I think it's a very good buy and an essential for any holiday!

I was provided with the Trunki Toybox for the purpose of this review, free of charge. My opinions are as always honest.
