Sigg With Cuipo: One Metre At A Time (Review)

Since I first started reviewing SIGG eco water bottles (nearly two years ago) I have purchased no more than five plastic water bottles. That's an absolute maximum, and a generous top limit at that.

The first thing we do when we get ready to go out is fill up our water bottles and put them in whichever bag is accompanying us. And, by the time we've brought them home again, they're empty. We're drinking more, saving money, and reducing the amount of rubbish in landfill sites. My first post about our SIGG bottles provided the statistic of having prevented me from buying approximately fifteen bottles in that first month.

15 bottles a month x 23 months since I had my first SIGG bottle = 345 less bottles in landfill.

(It has its downfalls; there are loads of craft activities I've seen on Pinterest that I can't do because I have no plastic bottles!)

The latest collection of SIGG bottles that found their way to us, were produced under collaboration with Cuipo.org. The Cuipo Rainforest Preserve is in Panama. A rainforest which was once protected from the outside world by harsh geography is under threat of deforestation due to improved transportation. Agriculture, logging, development, mining, and tourism have all played a part in its destruction. Cuipo.org have managed to secure 3,300 acres of this rainforest and through the campaign 'One Metre at a Time' are working to safeguard and preserve square metres of the rainforest, one metre at a time. There is a range of products available to purchase which allow the customer to redeem a voucher and therefore 'Save a metre'. And the campaign is also helping to teach indigenous people the skills required to protect their land by becoming park rangers.

And this is where SIGG come in. Each SIGG bottle sold saves one square metre of the rainforest. The first set of Cuipo bottles from SIGG are available in 0.6 and 0.3 litre sizes. Customers purchasing a SIGG Cuipo receive a unique activation code and by entering the code on the Cuipo website, the customers can view their square metre of rainforest via Google Maps.

We were sent the 'Steve the Sloth' (for me, how apt!), 'Bring Your Own Bananas' (Mr. TBaM) and 'Tiko' (for The Boy) bottles to try out and redeem our three metres. And they were just the thing to quench our thirst on a warm Spring day full of frisbee throwing and tree climbing. We may not have tropical rainforests over in Wales, but The Boy certainly treasures any forest he can get to grips with!

Days 55-61 of Project 365

55-61 of 36555. 'Hello! Anyone there?' (We went exploring in the woods and had a great time squelching through the mud and finding our echo.)

56. 'Spiderman' (This cargo net is always the first thing he heads for in a local park, it's a bit of an ongoing challenge for him as it is designed for infants and juniors, having different size nets as well as different sized ladders. He likes to measure his progress by how easily he can get over the bigger gaps, but has yet to attempt climbing up the sail of the 'boat'.)

57. 'Can' (He's been using a Reading Eggs app called 'Tap The Cat' to practise his reading, spelling and writing, and under my site's host's recommendation I bought this pen for him to use with the iPad. He's finding it so much easier to overwrite and it's better than finger tracing for the development of his writing skills.)

58. 'New teeth' (He finally got stuck into the chocolate Gruffalo we bought him for Christmas and relished eating various parts of him to make him less scary!)

59. 'Underwater lights' (Kara from Innocent Charmer recently recommended this underwater bath light to me, which arrived this week, and has brought a whole new level of fun to bathtime!)

60. 'National Pride' (St. David's Day!)

61. 'Lean' (We've been exploring Caerphilly Castle today in the most gorgeous Spring sunshine, and in one half of this photograph you can see the leaning south east tower of the castle. More on that in this weekend's Country Kids post.)

Hot Wheels On A Hot Bottle (Review)

Coinciding nicely with the latest edition to our Hot Wheels track collection, was the arrival of a new water bottle for The Boy from SIGG Eco Bottles. The Boy already had a small bottle which he is incredibly fond of and has served him well, but as he is about to turn three next month, SIGG felt that he probably was drinking more and therefore needed a larger bottle to keep him going during the day.

And he is now a boy obsessed! His old bottle lies feeling sorry for itself in the cupboard, I even have to alternate them so as not to cause jealousy and sibling squabbles.

Hot Wheels has been everywhere with us: to the beach, to Pizza Express and bowling. It had issues when we went bowling, a lack of opposable thumbs meant it was difficult to pick up the ball.

The Hot Wheels bottle is a really good sized bottle for the pre-schooler; not too heavy to carry, holds enough water to quench his thirst and also looks really attractive. On top of this, the aluminium casing means that it tends to stay cooler for a lot longer than plastic bottles. And surely the fact that we're teaching our children to be eco-friendly is a big bonus?

The Hot Wheels SIGG EcoBottle is available from SIGG directly.

The Boy was sent this bottle for the purpose of this review. His opinion is honest and unbiased, as is mine.

SIGG Eco Bottle: Undersea Poetry (Review & Competition)

As you may know, I am a SIGG Mummy which involves us reviewing products for SIGG Eco Bottles. We've had bottles sent to us for all the family for both hot and cold drinks, and also food storage tins. Every single product we have, we use throughout the week and test them to destruction. Only you would really need to do some damage to destroy these bottles.

Take my bottle for instance: it comes out in my handbag with my every time I leave the house and comes into school with me on my working days. It's covetted by all the girls in the school, goes in many different classes and everyone knows which bottle I'm talking about if I've left it in a classroom. I've dropped it on the playground countless times. Granted, there are small dents in it to show for it's playground antics, but they just add to the appeal of my SIGG bottle. These specially crafted bottles are tough and durable, they can stand a fall over on the tarmac.

Flexibath (Review)

When we went on holiday at the beginning of August, I wrongly assumed that the family-friendly self-catering apartment we were staying in would have a bath in one of the two 'bath'rooms. More fool me! We ended up having to buy a big plastic tub from a supermarket for him to bathe in; it was neither practical nor comfortable.

When we were given the opportunity to review a Flexibath a few weeks later, I almost jumped for joy because we were due to spend the weekend in a chain hotel which I knew didn't have a bath. I cannot even begin to tell you how much of a stress-saver the Flexibath was! It fitted perfectly into the shower cubicle, filled up within two minutes and was compact. The accompanying bath toys were perfect to keep The Boy amused and entertained. It folded flat and stored easily in the car, taking up minimal space amongst the vast array of other items that such a small being needs!

Since that weekend a month ago, the Flexibath continues to be The Boy's bath of choice. He has a bath every other night and we used to fill the 'big' bath up with six inches of water; enough to cover his legs etc. and keep him warm but not too much to waste water. However, The Boy now chooses to have the 'little' bath 90% of the time. He has had no more than two baths in the 'big' bath in the past month.

For my inner eco-warrior, this is excellent news. We've measured and calculated the water. We fill the Flexibath up with 15 litres of water for The Boy, which provides the same depth of coverage as in the normal bath. The normal bath requires 60 litres of water for this!

So can you do the Maths? Over the past month, we have saved 630 litres of water!

The reasons why we love the Flexibath:

  • it folds flat and is stored easily
  • it uses a fraction of the water normally needed to bath a child
  • it has a non-slip base
  • there is a very-snug fitting plug to empty the water out (although we tend to scoop it out & water the house plants!)
  • it's bright and attractive
  • it is an essential for holidays!

As I've mentioned, Flexibath have introduced a set of bath toys to accompany the bath. These consist of a clear plastic shelf with suction cups for adhesion, a coffee/tea making set with colourful cups, jugs and a funnel. The toys which are soft and fun to play with, are made from the soft plastic used in the bath. They also work as probably some of the best bath toys that he's played with in the 'big' bath.

At only £29.95 for the Flexibath, and £13.95 for the bath toy-set I think these are essential additions for any trip, or eco-warrior who is conscious of the amount of water used at bath-times.

I was sent these items for review. My opinions are honest and unbiased.
