There are a few times of year that really lend themselves well to craft for children; Christmas is one and Easter is the other. However, while children love creating items from basic materials, it can be quite daunting for some parents to visualise the finished item, or to see a piece of craft and work out what was used to make it. We've been sent some really easy Easter craft kits from Yellow Moon, yet they are incredibly effective; enough to satisfy children's crafty cravings, and calm parents' frazzled nerves.
Easy Summer Craft Kits From Yellow Moon (Review)
We've recently been sent some products from Yellow Moon, the arts and crafts suppliers, to try out over the Summer holidays. With a week still left of the holidays, there's still plenty of time to get crafty with your children using these simple Summer craft kits; they range from ten minutes to hour long activities which are easy time-fillers and don't cost the Earth.
Carnival Glasses
In the foam glasses kit there are six different coloured foam glasses, it doesn't come with decorations supplied so it does mean having to find sequins, feathers, etc to decorate them with. However, this then means for greater personalisation depending upon the occasion. We decided to make carnival glasses, but they could easily be used for a clown party, etc. The best part about these glasses is that the arms fold out on a hinge, rather than bend like some cheaper plastic glasses. It means they stay on a lot more easily when worn!
At £3.60 for six glasses, these would be perfect as an activity at a birthday party, creating an instead party favour!
Ice-Cream Windmills
This paper windmill kit comes with six windmill templates in two colours, six plastic sticks in two colours, six ice-cream fasteners in two designs, and six plastic stoppers or hinges. It's relatively easy to make and take approximately five-ten minutes to construct one, depending upon how much assistance is given. The Boy needed a little help to stop the windmill sections from pinging off the central spoke once attached, and to accentuate the curve a little more to allow the windmill to spin.
A well-priced kit at £2.99 with everything included to make six attractive ice-cream windmills.
Bunting T-Shirt
Using the Berol fabric crayons and the 3D fabric paints, we decided to create some bunting for the front of one of The Boy's old t-shirts. The crayons were a little tricky to use over the fabric and so I had to hold the fabric tight for The Boy but they were very easy to colour with, not stiff and gave a deep vibrant colour. The fabric paint pens were easy to control and dried leaving a three-dimensional appearance.
Berol fabric crayons are £3.99 and contain 12 colours, the Carioca Art 3D fabric paints cost £3.99 for six.

Home-Made Christmas Cards
Before The Boy was born I used to spend hours looking for the perfect Christmas cards which would complement my chosen wrapping paper and the theme of the year. Then along came a perfect little being who looked incredibly cute dressed up in a Christmas costume, and he would be duely photographed and the image printed onto the front of personalised Christmas cards. This year he's going to be three and a half at Christmas and I just can't do it to him anymore; so in addition to traditional Hallmark cards, he's going to be making cards for family this year.
Here are some very simple cards that your pre-schooler can make within a few minutes.
You'll need:
- red and green card blanks
- blue card blanks
- white paint
- green felt
- sequins and stars
- bauble card blanks
- glue
- ribbon
- felt pens
I'm not going to do a ste-by-step guide because the photos really show how self-explanatory the cards are!
One tip: start making them now because pre-schoolers are not known for their ability to sit down for a few hours and make cards, then write them!

Pirate Craft Under A Yellow Moon Sky
It's fairly obvious to anyone who reads this blog regularly that I like doing craft activities with The Boy. And obviously Yellow Moon got that impression as well because they've sent us a box of art and craft supplies to get busy with over the Summer holidays. We've been chocka-block embracing our inner pirates in a wealth of shiver-me-timbers activities and had great fun in the process.
The Boy and I have made a number of things with these resources, and I have posted about them separately, but there were a few smaller activities that I wanted to share and show the resources we used to make them.
Pirate Collage
Foam stickers (£2.99 for 120) and coloured card (£2.99 for 50).
Pirate Finger Puppets
We coloured in these nifty pre-cut finger puppets (£2.99 for 24) with metallic pens and coloured felt pens.
We were sent other items which we used to make a pirate island, a treasure hunt and a spyglass. It's provided us with a Summer of fun and games, exploring history and adventure. It's also given me huge idea for The Boy's birthday party next Summer!
We were provided with these items for the purpose of this post. Our ideas and opinions are honest and our own.
